Our Journey so far?
We became the new owners of Herding Hill Farm in October 2010 when we moved from the outskirts of Leeds. We have been caravan & camping for 16 years and during the summer of 2010 we had our caravan on a seasonal pitch at Leaplish caravan site, Kielder. As we had been visiting Kielder and the wider Northumberland area regularly, we fell in love with the county and decided to make the area our home.
We started looking for properties and came across Herding Hill Farm on a day trip to Haltwhistle's outdoor swimming pool. As soon as we viewed the property we realised the potential of adding a caravan & camping site to the existing Farm Shop and Tearoom business, which had been something we had wanted to do for several years.
In the current economic climate we decided to take a huge risk and with a great deal of hard work and perseverance (during the worst winter to hit the UK since records began!) we have managed to bring our plans into reality.
As we approach Christmas 2011 we have had an excellent first year and the winter is much milder too. Our Caravan, Camping, Wigwam Site & Tea Room has been very popular and we have met loads of really nice people and made new friends along the way. Lots of people have returned more than once this year and have booked to come back next year.
At the beginning of September 2011 we had contractors start working on site installing our new top quality Amenity Block and also installing 3 new ensuite Wigwams that have Hot Tubs. They are also installing 14 level grass pitches with 16A EHU, duck pond and a Roman Fort Childrens Playground and a pirate ship for the under 6 yrs. All this will be finished by the end of March 2012. We are still open during this period so give us a call to discuss further.
Our Farm shop has proven to be less successful as we are located in a really quiet area that does not have much passing traffic and Haltwhistle has two great butchers and other types of local shops. We have decided to make this a campsite related shop selling essential items along with some local produce.
Herding Hill Farm is a great place for Hadrians Wall Camping. We are really looking forward to 2012 season and we are planning to become Hadrians Wall Premier Caravan & Camping Site.
Thanks
Steve & Anne
