We have recently renewed our AA 5 Pennant Gold Award for caravan and camping with a Quality Score of 92%. According to the AA website “AA Gold Pennants are awarded to the very best camping parks with a Quality Score of 90% and above.” The Inspector summarised his May 2021 visit by saying “Every year that we visit this operation there has been improvements and ongoing investment to further enhance the facilities for the guests. The new laundry, information and vending area has come online with very good results, freezer space as well as washing area inside and a microwave adds value. The space that was created from moving the old laundry has been used to good effect with a new indoor sluice introduced. Further fully serviced plots have been introduced as well since the last visit. A new dog walking path leads up to a vista point where picnic tables have been positioned. The retail area continues to be popular as is the BBQ hut. Pizza nights have been well received by the regular guests too. Whilst areas were still been serviced, housekeeping was very good. This site continues to be very well run and managed which is great to see.
Herding Hill Farm was awarded the AA Regional Campsite of the Year for the North East in 2018.
Herding Hill Farm also participates in the Visit England National Quality Assessment Scheme and whilst visits have been suspended on account of the pandemic are delighted to be classed a 5-star campsite in Northumberland and were rated at 91% at our 2019 visit. The Inspector said “Herding Hill Farm continues to achieve a Five Star Holiday, Touring and Camping Park rating following this year’s day assessment visit. The park continues to score confidently in all areas, except the compact laundry facility, however plans for the coming year include alterations to the main amenity building which includes the laundry, which is planned to be increased in size. This work was undertaken in early 2021 and we are confident of increasing our 91% score even further.” The site also holds the badges for Walkers Welcome, Cyclists Welcome, Families Welcome and Welcome Pets.
In 2020 Herding Hill Farm was highly commended in the North East Tourism awards for the category of best camping, glamping and holiday park North East.

Northumberland is home to the largest dark sky park in Europe, where you can see some of the most beautiful stars in the darkest skies. Northumberland International Dark Sky Park was awarded Gold tier status in 2013, making it officially the best place in England for you to stargaze. Herding Hill sits south of the B6318 Military Road and is therefore outside the International Dark Sky Park but our skies are just as spectacular for stargazing and we are an accredited Dark Sky Friendly Park on account of the low levels of light pollution.
