Why not enjoy a day’s shopping at Gateshead Metro Centre or Newcastle’s or Carlisle's Christmas markets? The market towns of Corbridge and Hexham also have special Christmas shopping evenings which are just magical. There are few campsites open over Christmas in the local area.

Christmas festivities

National Trust venues at Cragside, Wallington and Gibside all have Christmas activities, their sites are beautifully decorated and offer ideal opportunities for winter walks followed by hot drinks and festive treats. Well worth a visit when Christmas camping at Herding Hill Farm.

Walby Farm near Carlisle have Father Christmas on the Farm with a visit to Father Christmas and a chance to meet his reindeer and Mother Christmas.  Take your letters to the Elves’ Post Room, and you get to choose your own gift from the Elves Toy Shop.  Bookings need to be made online.
