Your booking allows one car per glamping pod only. Whilst cars are not permitted at the Castle Pods themselves there is a dedicated car parking area which is a short walk from the glamping pods North East and should allow for easy unloading. Please be respectful of other guests when parking your car to ensure that there is sufficient parking for all. If you need to bring an extra car, we do have a car park at the front of the site and there is a charge of £5 per car per night which should be booked in advance. Please note that availability for visitor parking is limited. Our larger Accessible Castle Pod Warkworth allows you to park one vehicle directly outside the pod.

Your luxury glamping Castle Pod will be ready from 4pm on arrival day. If you are going to arrive later than 8pm please let us know in advance so that someone can be there to greet you. If you arrive after 10.30pm we will require you to leave your car at Reception until the following day. Departure time on your last day is 10am at the latest.
Our Castle Pod glamping pods with hot tub are designed to make your Hadrian’s Wall glamping experience at Herding Hill Farm as luxurious and comfortable as possible, with a minimum of hassle. There is a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower, luxury toiletries, and we supply Egyptian cotton luxury towels at no extra charge. The double bed will be dressed in the finest of linen. The kitchenette has sink, microwave, fridge, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine and induction hob and there is a supply of cutlery, crockery, pans and glasses. A cosy corner sofa, wood burning stove, smart TV and table and chairs for two complete the interior. Outside on the furnished patio, with gorgeous views of the Northumberland countryside is an outdoor hot tub, BBQ and fire pit. Our patio is perfect for stargazing and there are optional outdoor red lights to help you maintain your night vision.
We supply a small welcome pack of tea and coffee for your hot tub breaks Northumberland but you should ensure that you bring with you everything you need to eat and drink including condiments and beverages. We supply charcoal, logs and kindling for approximately one night, with additional items being available to buy from Reception.

Yes! Our Castle Pod glamping pods are suitable for a year-round Northumberland glamping trip and our 5-star campsite is open all year-round. Each luxury glamping Castle Pod is fully insulated with underfloor heating throughout as well as a wood burning stove. They are particularly well insulated and retain the heat. That is why our Castle Pods can be booked for a winter glamping trip on Hadrian’s Wall 365 days a year! Herding Hill Farm is a campsite open at Christmas and our Castle Pods are perfect for luxury glamping at Christmas.
Our luxury glamping Castle Pods are suitable for couples only, however Herding Hill Farm is family friendly and families with young children are welcome to stay in one of our Wigwam cabins. We have baby changing facilities, including baths, in the main amenity block and have cots and high chairs for hire. No children allowed in our Castle Pods which are glampin gpods North East exclusively for adults.
As a result of guest feedback, we now have 2 pet friendly Castle Pods allocated to guests travelling with one well behaved dog. We apply a small cleaning charge of £25 per stay. Our Langley Castle Pod and our Dunstanburgh Castle Pod are both dog friendly. Just make sure you select the dog friendly option when booking. We do not allow dogs in our remaining Castle Pods or our Warkworth Accessible Castle Pod.
We also allow up to two well behaved dogs per Wigwam® cabin by prior arrangement with an additional cleaning charge so if you would like to bring your dog whilst glamping in Northumberland please check out our range of Wigwam glamping cabins, including our Running Water Wigwams with hot tubs.
Dogs must always be kept on a short lead and must not be left unattended at any time. We have a dog walk path on our campsite but can also recommend several other walks suitable for dog walking in the local area. Our wardens are also able to advise as to local dog friendly pubs and attractions. close to our glamping pods North East. The Milecastle Inn, located 0.5 miles from Herding Hill Farm does not allow dogs indoors but has a large beer garden with great views.
Herding Hill Farm Camping and Glamping site has built a reputation on being a peaceful rural location at which to enjoy your relaxing Northumberland glamping trip. We do not allow music or loud noise from any device that can be heard outside of your accommodation. Our children’s playground is closed at 9pm (Dusk in Winter) and we ask for conversation-level noise only after 10.30pm. All hot tubs in our glamping pods North East must be vacated by 10.30pm. We do expect all guests to follow this policy so that everyone can relax and enjoy their time at Herding Hill Farm.
Whilst we believe that our Castle Pods with hot tub offer real luxury glamping Northumberland, with all the facilities you need for a luxurious and comfortable stay included in the standard tariff, we do offer a list of additional extras such as bottles of champagne, Prosecco, flowers, Party or Celebration packs which can be ordered in advance. We also offer BBQ and breakfast meat packs which can be ordered in advance at the time of booking or by calling us on 01434 320175.
Your Castle Pod comes with its own BBQ therefore there is no need for you to bring your own. We provide charcoal for approximately one BBQ, with more being available to buy in Reception or you may want to bring your own. BBQ’s must be used safely and not placed on the grass or any wooden surface such as the table or decking. There is also a fire pit, with additional wood being available to buy from Reception.
Herding Hill Farm has a BBQ hut available to hire for up to 20 people from £40. Please call us on 01434 320175 if you would like to hire the BBQ hut.
Our website is full of information and recommendations on our site and local walks and attractions, as well as links to key places of interest. Herding Hill Farm Camping and Glamping Site is in a rural location and if you want to explore further afield having your own transport is a definite advantage. However, the AD122 Hadrian’s Wall Country bus from Hexham (approx. 17 miles away) via Haltwhistle, stops at the entrance to our campsite or alternatively just outside the Milecastle Inn. This service operates seasonally between Easter and October between Hexham and Haltwhistle and stops at all the major Hadian's Wall sites including the National Landscape Discovery Centre, Vindolanda, Chesters and Housesteads roman forts, Cawfields Quarry and Walltown Quarry and the Roman Army Museum, Click here for the latest timetable.
The nearest train station is at Haltwhistle (approx. 1.5 miles away), with trains direct to Newcastle and Carlisle. To get to Haltwhistle it is a 1.5 mile walk downhill through Haltwhistle Burn or down the road at Shield Hill. Neither are recommended in the dark. There are a range of taxi services in Haltwhistle, numbers can be found in your Welcome Pack in your Castle Pod.
The 685 bus between Newcastle and Carlisle, operated by Stagecoach also stops in Haltwhistle, as well as other towns such as Hexham, Haydon Bridge and Corbridge. The 685 runs approximately every half an hour.

There are a number of food options in Haltwhistle, 1.5 miles from Herding Hill Farm. The nearest supermarket is Sainsbury’s on Fair Hill when glamping Haltwhistle. Sainsbury’s opening times are Monday to Saturday 8am to 9pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. Click here for their website. There is also a Co-operative Food on Main Street in Haltwhistle. Haltwhistle also has a number of independent stores on its main street including a good butchers.
The market town of Hexham is approximately 20 minutes’ drive and has several large supermarkets including Waitrose, Aldi, Lidl and Tesco as well as independent shops and an excellent weekly farmers market.
Herding Hill Farm nestles peacefully within the stone walls and rolling hills of Northumberland that slope gently south from Hadrian’s Wall. We have scenic walks directly from our site and of course our farm animals, including our alpacas Mamba, Knight and Minstrel, Coco our donkey, Robin our Shetland pony alongside rabbits, hens, goats and guinea pigs. The Milecastle Inn is the nearest pub, less than one mile from Herding Hill Farm. It is a traditional family-run pub serving homemade food and fine real ales. No dogs allowed inside the Milecastle Inn. The road between the farm and the pub is unlit and there is no pavement so therefore we would suggest taking a torch and please take care. We provide a torch in your Castle Pod. Head down into Haltwhistle for more pubs, cafes and takeaways. Many takeaways will deliver to the campsite for a small charge. On Fridays in season we also serve pizzas directly to your luxury glamping Castle Pod (subject to availability).
Sorry, we do not accept Stag or Hen parties or groups of more than 8. As a low noise policy site, we have families and couples who book with us for some quality relaxing time at our campsite. Also, as per our terms and conditions, we don’t allow any music to be played by our guests that can be heard outside of their touring pitch or glamping pod so that everyone can enjoy a peaceful time glamping in Northumberland.
Yes, free WIFI is available on site for all guests and there are Smart TV's with Netflix in our luxury glamping pods North East. However, due to our rural location there can be issues with the free WIFI speeds, particularly when the site is full, so we do ask guests to bear this in mind and avoid the download of large files. There is excellent 4G reception throughout the campsite.
Yes, Herding Hill Farm is ideal for luxury glamping Haltwhistle. You can walk down into the local town of Haltwhistle. It’s approximately 1.5 miles. It is a lovely walk down the beautiful Haltwhistle Burn. Please note however that it is a steep uphill on the way back. There is also the AD122 bus service, which stops close to our campsite between Easter and October, as well as several local taxis. Click here for the latest timetable. If you’re looking for Hadrian’s Wall glamping or Northumberland glamping with hot tub, then our campsite in Northumberland is the perfect choice! Ideally located just 1 mile from one of the most well preserved sections of Hadrian’s Wall and a short drive from The Sill, National Landscape Discovery Centre. You have the luxury of enjoying all that this wonderful location has to offer on foot directly from the campsite if you choose. Cawfields Quarry is the best and most local place to access Hadrian's Wall and from there it's a lovely walk West to Walltown Crags or East to Steel Rigg and onwards to Sycamore Gap.
