Is there public transport to Herding Hill Farm?
Herding Hill Farm is in a rural location. Having your own transport is a definite advantage. However, the AD122 Hadrian’s Wall Country bus from Hexham (approx. 17 miles away) via Haltwhistle, stops at the campsite entrance or at The Milecastle Inn, about 0.5 miles from the campsite entrance. This service operates between Easter and October. The AD122 operates between Hexham and Haltwhistle and stops at most of the Hadrian's Wall attractions along the B6318 Military Road.

The nearest train station is at Haltwhistle (approx. 1.5 miles away). Trains run between Newcastle and Carlisle, with various stops along the Tyne Valley including Hexham and Corbridge. There is a car park at the train station and electric vehicle charging points. The Stagecoach 685 bus between Carlisle and Newcastle also stops in Haltwhistle. There are a number of taxi firms in Haltwhistle.

Where are your nearest supermarkets?
Haltwhistle is the closest spot for shopping, 1.5 miles away. The nearest supermarket is Sainsbury’s on Fair Hill in Haltwhistle. Sainsbury’s opening times are Monday to Saturday 8am to 9pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. Click here for their website. There is also a Co-operative Food on Main Street in Haltwhistle. Co-operative opening times are Monday to Sunday 7am to 10pm. Click here for their website. There are other shops including a butchers and a greengrocers in Haltwhistle.

Hexham is a 15-minute drive and has a large selection of shops and supermarkets including a Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, Waitrose and M&S Food Hall. There is also an excellent Saturday market and a monthly farmers market in the Market Square.

What is there to do on Herding Hill Farm?
Herding Hill Farm nestles peacefully within the stone walls and rolling hills that slope gently south from Hadrian’s Wall. We have a children's playground, lovely scenic walks directly from our farm and of course our petting farm animals, including our alpacas Mamba, Knight and Minstrel, our donkey Coco, new piglets Ginger and Chilli, Robin our Shetland pony, as well as goats, rabbits, guinea pigs and hens. Please ask staff about attractions in the area, of which there are many to choose from.

What is the nearest pub serving food?
The Milecastle Inn is the nearest pub, less than one mile from Herding Hill Farm. It is a traditional family-run pub serving homemade food and fine real ales. The road between the campsite and the pub is unlit and there is no pavement. We would suggest taking a torch at night and families may not consider the walk suitable for young children. Although dogs are allowed in the pub’s beer garden, unfortunately they are not allowed inside. Head down into Haltwhistle along the beautiful Haltwhistle Burn for more dog-friendly and family-friendly pubs, cafes and takeaways. We do not recommend walking to/from Haltwhistle in the dark as there are no pavements and the road is unlit. Guests should be aware that it is a steep climb back to Herding Hill Farm.

Do you accept Stag/Hen Parties at Herding Hill Farm
Sorry, we do not accept Stag or Hen parties. As a low noise policy site, we have families and couples who book with us for some quality time at our farm. Also, as per our terms and conditions, we don’t allow any music to be played by our guests that can be heard outside of the lodge.

Is there WIFI on site?
Yes, free WIFI is available on site for all guests. However, as we are in a rural location there can be issues with the free WIFI particularly when the site is full, so we do ask guests to bear this in mind. Our wardens will try to assist with any specific issues or requests if trying to book somewhere to eat or wanted some local information.

Are you within walking distance to local shops?
Yes, you can walk down into Haltwhistle; it’s approximately 1.5 miles. There is also the AD122 bus service, which stops at the Milescastle Inn, a half mile walk. The AD122 operates seasonally between Haltwhistle and Hexham between Easter and Octover.

There are an excellent range of shops in both Hexham (15-minute drive) and Corbridge (25-minute drive) including arts and crafts, galleries, book stores, deli food, boutiques, antiques and cafes.

Do you provide a BBQ?
Yes, a gas BBQ is provided for your use on your private furnished outdoor decking. We ask guests to leave the BBQ clean after use.
